Cricket in Dreams

NAZIR Hossain
24 Pargana, West Bengal

A boy dreams of flying, where will he find his wings?
His wishes are contained in what reality brings.

Father’s a PhD, a professor of great renown,
Mother’s an MBBS doctor, known all around.

A top student, first in class with great flair,
But if he’s not a doctor, where will his father’s dream fare?

He listens to his parents, does as they say,
He doesn’t just want to study, but play all day.

His heart succumbs to their persistent plea,
Now only books fill his time, and he’s never free.

This year, with books heavy on his back,
He wakes up at five, sitting straight, no slack.

Four tutors help him, and he studies with care,
But he forgets where the playground is, unaware!

All day studying, no time for play,
His father wishes, and his mother says, “Be a doctor one day!”

At day’s end, a long sigh escapes his chest,
In his dreams, cricket fields bring him rest!
