Haru's Poetry Pursuit

RUPSA Banerjee

Kolkata, West Bengal

Recently failed his college exam,

Haru writes a sorrowful poem in a jam.

Wipes his tears and reads it again and again –

“Eureka! No more need for a degree then!

One day I’ll surely be a famous poet!”

And with that, abandons studies, becoming devout.

In the evening gatherings, poetry flows,

Posts new creations on Facebook as it goes.

Some unfriend him, some hit the block,

Neighbors laugh, faces twisting in mock.

Heartbroken, Haru leaves home in gloom –

Sits in the forest, away from human bloom.

Recites all his works, one by one –

The ghosts in the trees tremble, undone!

They roar, “Stop it, you devil, right now!

Or we'll bite off both your ears somehow!”

Haru escapes with his life, focuses on studies instead.

Alas, his fate as a poet, forever dead.
