Emancipation

SOUVIK Chakraborty
Burnpur, West Burdwan

Playfully, she moves out of her cocoon and seeks the unknown

Rummaging inside the bag of tricks, she chooses a magic ring

Encouraging sunlight smiles down at her, illumines her path

Expectant, full of innocent wonder, she reaches for the door

Though hesitant, she utters an incantation and waves her hand

Hope courses through her as she waits for a miracle to happen

And when the locks open, she summons up courage, steps inside.

Day in and day out, dreams take birth and go back to their graves

All good things come to an end, embellished castles tumble down

Sleep doesn’t stay for long, has to give in to the necessities of life

Governed by rules, emotions last seconds before dissolving away.

Upwards, yet, fly the heart’s desires; sudden wind carries them far

Peace unfurls Her golden wings and receives the silent prayers…

Towards a coveted realm, where love dwell and eternity waits

A small yet determined step, the emancipated girl takes.
