That Morning's Sneeze

Badrinath Pal

Purulia, West Bengal

That morning when Bhuto Ghosh's dear uncle

Let out a mighty sneeze,

The thunderous sound shook Delhi hard

And reached Dhaka with ease.

The Himalayan peaks split wide,

With cracks from side to side.

Poor Kolkata turned upside down

What a topsy-turvy ride!

The British all cried, "Oh dear me!"

With frightened yelps and yowls.

The President of America

Just stood there, lost for words.

Australia burst into flames,

The Amazon overflowed.

The Sahara sank beneath the earth

Where, no one ever knows!

The wind came racing, whistling fast,

From south towards the east.

At noon the Sun slipped out of sight,

Its shining suddenly ceased.

Then down came Howrah Bridge with a crash,

A roaring, rumbling score

All because Bhuto Ghosh's uncle

Sneezed that early morn!
