Hilsa
ROBIN Basu
Kolkata, West Bengal
A silver gleam swims in the sea,
The Hilsa fish, its name you see.
Delicious taste and fragrant too,
But costs so much, it’s nothing new.
With many bones, yet what a treat,
Fried or steamed, it's fun to eat.
Even when the plate is clear,
You still crave more, it’s true, my dear.
Fried Hilsa with khichuri rice,
On rainy days, it’s pure delight.
No Bengali will disagree,
This combo’s love, as all can see.
A pair of Hilsas at Puja time,
For sacred tasks, it is divine.
In Bangladesh, it proudly stays,
The national fish in every way.
Enough of talk, now let us go,
To the market where we’ll know,
If a big Hilsa we can find,
At a price that suits our mind!
