After the Festival

NURJAMAN Shah

Murshidabad, West Bengal

The surroundings are buzzing with clamor and cheer,

Today every neighborhood’s festive and clear.

In dazzling lights and decorations so bright,

The heart fills with joy at the wonderful sight!

A trace of the festival still lingers on,

Those joyous days felt like they’ve just begun.

Soon the school will open, and studies will start,

With winter’s cold touch and a warm, hopeful heart.

Shiuli flowers fall in heaps on the ground,

As winter’s chill wraps the home all around.
